Friday & Sunday Weddings: 9 Reasons Couples Are Skipping Saturday

Saturday is the default wedding day in most couples' heads — and because everyone wants it, Saturday is also the hardest date to get. The venue you love? Booked 14 months out. The photographer you want? Same story.

Here's the secret more and more of our couples have figured out: Friday and Sunday weddings aren't a compromise. Done right, they're an upgrade. As wedding DJs who play all three days across Northern Indiana, here are the reasons we keep seeing couples win with a Friday or Sunday date.

1. Your dream venue is actually available

Popular venues in Wabash, Huntington, Kosciusko, and Whitley counties book their Saturdays a year or more in advance. Fridays and Sundays are a different story — the same beautiful barn, ballroom, or lakeside tent is far more likely to be open on your date, even on a shorter timeline. Choosing Friday or Sunday often means choosing the venue you actually wanted instead of your third choice.

2. Your first-choice vendors are more likely to be free

DJs, photographers, planners, florists, caterers — every vendor has the same Saturday bottleneck. Move your date one day in either direction and your A-list team is suddenly available. (We know a certain DJ duo that would love to prove it.)

3. It can be easier on your budget

Many venues and some vendors price Fridays and Sundays below their Saturday rates, and minimums are often lower too. Even if the line items don't change, a Friday or Sunday date gives you more negotiating room and more options at every price point — money you can put toward the honeymoon, the open bar, or the late-night pizza.

4. You get more time with the people you love

A Friday wedding turns into a full weekend: rehearse Thursday, marry Friday, then spend Saturday relaxing with family and friends who traveled in — no rush, no post-wedding crash while everyone's still in town.

A Sunday wedding flips it: Saturday becomes a welcome party, golf outing, or casual rehearsal gathering, and Sunday is the main event. Either way, your wedding becomes a weekend instead of a blur.

5. The guest list trims itself — in a good way

Friday and Sunday dates naturally filter for the people who wouldn't miss it for the world. The result is a room full of your favorite people, a more intimate feel, and a per-guest budget that stretches further. Smaller room, bigger energy.

6. Yes, people will absolutely party

This is the #1 myth we hear, so let us settle it from behind the DJ booth: Friday and Sunday dance floors get just as wild as Saturday ones. Friday crowds show up ready — it's the start of the weekend and people are in celebration mode from the first song. Sunday weddings usually start a little earlier and end a little earlier, and guests pace themselves for a full night rather than a late one.

One of our couples said it perfectly in their review: they told us up front they "wanted to be in bed by 11" — and their floor was packed right up until they were. An earlier night isn't a smaller party. It's a party on a smarter schedule.

7. Holiday-weekend Sundays are a power move

Sunday of Memorial Day, Labor Day, or Fourth of July weekend is the single best "cheat code" in wedding planning: your guests get a Saturday-level party night, a Monday to recover and travel home, and you get Sunday availability pricing and openings. These dates go quietly — and they go fast once couples figure it out.

8. A shorter engagement becomes possible

Dreaming of a 5-month engagement instead of 15? Friday and Sunday availability is how you do it without settling. When venues and vendors have your date open, planning gets calmer, faster, and frankly more fun.

9. Your photos get the good light

Friday evening ceremonies land right in golden hour. Sunday weddings have flexible timelines that let your photographer chase the best light of the day instead of fighting a rigid Saturday schedule. Your album will thank you.

"But won't our guests have work on Monday?"

For a Sunday wedding, a slightly earlier timeline solves it: ceremony in the mid-afternoon, reception wrapped by 9 or 10, local guests home at a reasonable hour, and out-of-towners flying out Monday morning. For a Friday wedding, most guests happily take a half day — and it's an excuse for a long weekend if they don't.

Thinking Friday or Sunday? Let's check your date

We still have Friday and Sunday dates open in 2027 — including winter dates in January and February and late-2027 openings — and we'd love to bring the party to yours. Every Double Dad wedding includes our full lighting and effects, sound for both ceremony and reception, and timeline coordination from the first guest arrival to the last song.

Reach out through our contact page at doubledadentertainment.com or call/text 260-802-1459 and tell us your date — we'll take it from there.

Quick FAQ

Are Friday weddings cheaper than Saturday weddings?

Often, yes. Many venues charge less for Friday and Sunday dates and have lower guest minimums. Vendor availability is also better, which gives you more choices at every budget.

What time should a Sunday wedding start?

A mid-afternoon ceremony (around 3–4 PM) with the reception ending by 9–10 PM works beautifully. Guests get a full celebration and a reasonable drive home.

Will people dance at a Friday or Sunday wedding?

Yes — we see packed floors on all three days. Friday crowds arrive in weekend mode, and Sunday's earlier timeline keeps energy high from start to finish.

SEO notes for Ben (not part of the post): targets searches like "Friday wedding," "Sunday wedding," "Friday wedding DJ Indiana," and "Sunday wedding pros and cons." Suggested internal links: the words "contact page" → your contact page; "reviews" mention → Google/Facebook reviews if the site has a reviews page. Post anytime — it's evergreen, but it pairs naturally with the Friday/Sunday availability push.
